Principal's Message
Greetings, WLE Families:

This week’s Standardized Testing and Reporting program (STAR) for all 2nd – 5th graders will measure students' progress toward achieving California's state-adopted academic content standards in Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. During the next two weeks, our campus will be closed from 8:25 until noon to all parents and outside visitors. No class can be interrupted by phone or intercom during testing time. Any student arriving late will NOT be able to enter the classroom until after the testing session and will have to do their make-up test separate from their class and teacher. We look forward to sharing our results in August!

A huge THANK YOU to Paige Lemieux and Sue Carter for organizing the Father-Daughter Dance on Friday Night. It looked as though everyone in attendance had a really great time! Another giant THANK YOU to Christy Camp and all the volunteers who came out for our first Earth Day campus clean-up yesterday. Quite a few trash bags were filled by the large number of volunteers who showed up to school Sunday afternoon to beautify the campus.

Thanks to all our volunteers who help make Westlake Elementary the outstanding place it is! There are many more opportunities to get involved in before the year is over. Read below and pick a way to get involved!

Stamp Out Hunger

StampOutHunger

Finish the School Year by Giving
Back with Stamp Out Hunger

Over 49 million Americans are at risk of hunger according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. One Day only Friday May 11th you can help our community stamp out hunger and earn points for your classroom.

1. Place all your Labels for Education and Box Tops in the RED bucket in your classroom. This is the last collection for the school year. The winning class will celebrate with an ICE CREAM PARTY.

2. Fill bags with non-perishable food items and place them in the boxes in front of the office. Donate items like canned meats, fish, soup, fruits and vegetables, bottled juices, pasta, dried beans and rice that do not require refrigeration. Please do not include items that have expired or have glass containers.

Thank you for making a difference.

2012 Father/Daughter Dance

Going Out With A BANG!
FDD1

The 2012 Father/Daughter dance was held this past Friday with a high attendance of over 300 people kicked off with streaming confetti. Smiles were seen throughout the night thanks, in large part, to Paige Gamble. Paige has three Wizards about to graduate WLE and threw an over-the-big top party as a final farewell. The night featured a beautifully decorated dance area with a D.J. leading group dances and holding competitions. We finally learned the secrets to getting 98% of the dads to participate! The outdoor pavilion hosted driving game arcades (sorry to the boys!), an air hockey table and Wheel of Fortune machine for sought after prizes. Our jovial clown offered face painting and balloon animals for souvenirs. What goes better with popcorn, snocones and cotton candy?

A special shout out THANK YOU to all the parents that helped along the way. We sincerely appreciate your time and talents to ensure a magical evening.

See you on campus.

Sue Carter/Paige Gamble
Beautification

Thanks to the Kuhl, Camp and Scott families for their work in weeding the driveway planter this past weekend. It looks fantastic and is a beautiful approach to our daily walk into school.
