IMPORTANT INFORMATION  |   PARKING & TRAFFIC GUIDELINES

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with these very important and newly written traffic and parking guidelines.

1. A very large percentage of families live within walking/riding distance of our school. If the weather is anything other than rain, please walk to school with your children if you are able. If you are not able, have your older children walk to school together in groups. With our traffic issues, every day at Westlake Elementary should be Walk to School Day.

All 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders are permitted to ride their bikes to school, per CVUSD policy. All K – 2nd grade students MUST be accompanied by an adult if riding a bike. The bike lock area is outside the kindergarten play yard. All bikes should be locked up and are the sole responsibility of the owner.

2. Our campus will now open at 7:45am in an attempt to urge people to arrive earlier. There is rarely a line to enter the parking lot before 8:10 so come early and avoid the headache. We have daily campus supervision from 7:45–8:20am so drop your kids off early and let them play!

3. Our campus closes at 3pm daily to all but CVUSD Childcare students and those with approved facilities usage permits (such as Westlake Baseball, AYSO soccer, and our many after school enrichment classes) due to a variety of liability issues. There is rarely a line to enter the lot after 2:45pm. Tell your children to watch for you & come a few minutes after school lets out – BUT BEFORE 3:00.

4. There is no longer a need to even enter the parking lot for student drop-off/pick-up! Simply turn left immediately before our parking lot entrance and pull up along the frontage road between our parking lot entrance & exit. The frontage road drop-off/pick-up area is intended for drop-off/pick-up ONLY during the hours of 7:30–8:30am and 2–3pm. You will receive a ticket if you get out of your car between those hours. When in doubt, refer to the street signs. Students must remain on the sidewalk and cross at the ENTRANCE of the parking lot with our campus supervisor.

We feel the older kids are more familiar with the drop-off/pick-up routine and are more cognizant of traffic. Therefore, we would really like our 4th and 5th graders especially to use the frontage road, though anyone can drop-off/pick-up their kids there, of course.

5. If you choose to enter the school parking lot, all cars must pull all the way forward to the end of the curb in front of the Office. Pull up, let the kids out/in, and pull away. Please blow kisses and say all goodbyes (or hellos) when the kids are in the car!

6. If you choose to enter the school parking lot, drivers may not get out of their cars anywhere along the drop-off/pick-up line, especially along the curb in front of the school office. All it takes is one car to back up the entire line of traffic.

7. When exiting our lot, you MUST turn right between 8–8:30am and 2:30–3pm. Once you turn right, if you need to make a left onto Potrero Road please go PAST Camberwell and make your left from Trafalgar so the exit lane does not get backed up in the school parking lot.

Again, if everyone follows the guidelines, policies, and laws described above on a daily basis things will improve quite noticeably!

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
